My story
My earliest memory of helping kids was when my 7th grade Math teacher asked me if I would be interested in tutoring younger students at my middle school. That kicked off my journey of giving back to my community in various ways. During the Covid summer of 2020, I ran a Pre-Algebra camp in my garage and taught younger math enthusiasts in my community. While my initiative was voluntary, I raised and donated $700 to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Volunteering at our local Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown, PA, during the summer honed my ability to connect with young, curious, and inquisitive minds on science and math related projects I have tutored math and English at a locally owned JEI Learning Center for over 3 years after school and during summers. I donated all wages to a school serving under privileged children on the outskirts of the city of Pune in India. I shared my experiences and learnings at the first ever TedX event at my Parkland High School in Allentown, PA. My multiple trips to visit my grandparents and extended family in India exposed me the wide economic disparities in that complex country. I endeavored to do my part to alleviate some of the unfair circumstances by lending a direct helping hand. After thinking long and hard for a sustainable and viable action plan, I came up with the concept of Global YAP based on channeling volunteer hours, including those of my peers, towards instructing high schoolers in India.
